Place de repos
The Place de repos (German: Place of rest ) was a society house in Leipzig .
In 1793, the coffeehouse owner George Wilhelm Richter had a company house built by the architect Carl August Benjamin Siegel on the An der Pleiße promenade along the Pleißemühlgraben (today Dittrichring 15, corner of Bosestraße).
In a side building of the Place de Repos, theater was played from 1817 (Theater an der Pleiße). The Leipzig Masonic Lodge Balduin zur Linde used the Place de repos as a meeting place from its construction until 1820.
From 1825 to 1828, the master carpenter Leideritz rebuilt the Place de repos. It was a four-storey building with 17 window axes and a central projectile .
The Place de repos was regarded as a place of entertainment and recreation in elegant Leipzig. In addition to a restaurant and lounges, it contained a hall and a concert garden. Balls, concerts and theater performances were held in the hall.
In 1898 the Place de Repos was demolished in the course of the arching of the Pleißemühlgraben to widen the promenade ring. The successor building was the Centraltheater .
The French name of the Place de repos was - also because it was once used as a hospital - was "Germanized" by the vernacular as a plaster depot .
