Placidus Mittler OSB (born November 11, 1928 in Obercassel as Rudolf Mittler ; † February 26, 2016 in Siegburg ) was a German Benedictine monk and abbot of the Michaelsberg Benedictine Abbey from 1970 to 2000 .

Life

Mittler, one of four siblings, attended the Beethoven grammar school in Bonn from 1939 onwards , ended by the World War. After the end of the war, he attended the Sankt Ottilien boarding school from 1946 to 1948 . In 1948 he entered the Benedictine Abbey Michaelsberg in Siegburg. After studying philosophy and theology , he was ordained a priest on July 26, 1954 . From 1959 to 1964 he completed a degree in musicology . In 1964 he was at the University of Bonn with the work tunes investigation into the Doric hymns of the Latin liturgy in the Middle Ages to Dr. theol. PhD. From 1964 to 1974 he was a lecturer in Gregorian chant and liturgy at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Düsseldorf .

In 1970 he was elected by the Convention of the Benedictine Abbey Michaelsberg abbot and 18 May 1970 abbot benediziert . In addition, from 1972 to 1985 he was parish administrator of the Siegburg parish of St. Servatius . In 1989 he was appointed Dean of Church Music and of the Cecilia Association in the Siegburg deanery. In 2000 his resignation was granted for reasons of age.

After the abbey, founded in 1064 and rebuilt in 1914, was closed in 2011, he lived - together with his brother Mauritius Mittler - in the St. Josef "Haus zur Mühlen" retirement home of the Alexian brothers in Siegburg until his death .
