Mauritius mediator

Mauritius Mittler OSB (born May 25, 1921 in Bonn - Oberkassel as Hans-Josef Mittler ; † July 29, 2013 in Siegburg ) was a German Benedictine monk and historian as well as author and editor.

Life

Mittler, the oldest of four siblings, first completed an apprenticeship as a druggist , was obliged to do military service in 1939 and did not return home until 1945. In 1948 he finished his apprenticeship and entered the Benedictine Abbey Michaelsberg in Siegburg shortly after his brother Placidus Mittler . On February 23, 1956, he was ordained a priest in Cologne by Josef Cardinal Frings .

In 1962 he was commissioned by Abbot Ildefons Schulte Strathaus OSB as the successor to Wunibald Weber to take care of the Siegburg studies , a historical series. With special permission, he attended seminars at the University of Bonn . As librarian of the extensive abbey library with around 80,000 volumes, he published numerous historical studies and treatises. From 1966 he presented volumes III "Translation of the Holy Archbishop Anno" and IV "Annonian Miracle Reports" of the Siegburg Studies, another 24 volumes followed.

After the abbey, founded in 1064 and rebuilt in 1914, was closed in 2011, he lived with his brother, former abbot Placidus Mittler , in a nearby senior citizens' home. He was known by the name of Father Mau .
