Placidus Riccardi

Placidus Riccardi OSB (born June 24, 1844 as Tommaso Riccardi in Trevi , Italy , † March 15, 1915 in Rome ) was a monk in the Benedictine order and is a blessed of the Catholic Church.

Life

Riccardi entered the Abbey of St. Paul in Rome as a Benedictine in 1866, made his religious profession in 1871 and was ordained a priest in the same year . From 1884 to 1894 he was abbot vicar and confessor in the Benedictine nunnery of Amelia (Umbria) , from 1894–1912 he was rector of the basilica in the Farfa monastery in the Sabine mountains north of Rome . He devoted himself to the welfare of the pilgrims , which earned him the nickname "Apostle of the Sabines". Placidus Riccardi died after a serious illness on March 15, 1915 in the Roman Abbey of St. Paul Outside the Walls . His bones were transferred to Farfa in 1925. He was founded by Pope Pius XII. Beatified on December 5, 1954 .

Liturgical feast day is March 15th.
