Planasa (Plantas de Navarra SA) is a Spanish agricultural company from Navarra . It is active in the fields of plant breeding, tree nurseries and the production of endive .
Strawberries , raspberries, blueberries, asparagus and garlic are propagated on 1000 hectares of propagation areas in Spain, France, Poland, Chile and Mexico . With 155 million strawberry plants per year, Planasa claims to be the largest multiplier in the EU. The strawberry varieties Sabrosa and Sabrina dominate Spanish strawberry cultivation.
The Planasa R&D center is located in Cartaya near Huelva . In Le Barp (France), varieties for more northern areas are bred.
The company was founded in 1973 by the Darbonne family from France as an asparagus propagation company. In 1982 Planasa started breeding asparagus and strawberry varieties. In 1986 the branch in Cartaya was established.
Planasa is the world's leading manufacturer of endive. In 2014, the only American manufacturer based in California was taken over.
