Planet of Blue is the German contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 , which was actually supposed to be presented by the singer Leon at the final of the contest. However, the title could not qualify for the final. The song was written by Hanne Haller and Anna Rubach . Hanne Haller was also behind the production of the title.

Song content

The song describes how an astronaut travels into space to see the world from there.

Background information

The singer Leon was still an unknown artist in 1996 and sent a demo cassette to Hanne Haller . Shortly thereafter, he was a participant in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 called A Little Happiness and won it with the song Planet of Blue with 37.9% of the votes.

However, Germany had previously reached last place in 1995 with the title In Love with You by Stone & Stone . In addition, however, 30 countries applied to participate in the ESC and thus an internal decision was made as to who is allowed to participate in the final and who is not. The ARD declined this year to the broadcast of the Euro Vision Song Contest and moved them instead to the station NDR . The program was commented on by Ulf Ansorge , whose comments caused negative reactions from viewers.

Already one year later, in 1997, Leon tried again to take part in the preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Schein (My Little Flashlight) and achieved 2nd place with 13.0% of the votes.

Chart successes

The song was able to place itself in the charts of the television program ZDF-Hitparade: Schlager des Jahres with Uwe Hübner . Otherwise there was no entry in the official charts.
