history

After Manuel Vicari's previous Dark Wave project had ended his band activity, he began to write music based on the British Death Doom of the 1990s. The band Plateau Sigma emerged from the cooperation between Vicari and Nino Zuppardo on the compositions written by Vicari, after Zuppardo had presented the existing material. Following the decision to form a band based on this material, they brought in other musicians. After a development phase in which the position of bass player in particular was vacant, a stable band structure emerged with Francesco Genduso as guitarist and guttural singer , Manuel Vicari as guitarist and singer, Nino Zuppardo as drummer and Maurizio Avena as bassist. Together, the musicians recorded their 2010 demo with White Wings of Nightmares . At the same time, Plateau Sigma began its first appearances. In 2013 the demo, which was positively reviewed by various webzines , was republished via Beyond… Productions . Giovanni Indorato from Beyond… Productions contacted the band and signed a contract with the group in 2013 to re-release the demo and an album. The True Shape of Eskatos was then released in 2014 via Beyond… Productions and also received positive criticism, which already went beyond the Italian border. Christian Wögerbauer called the album for Vampster "a remarkable debut album". In the same year the band did an Eastern European tour with the post-metal band (EchO) . While the band continued to perform in 2015, the musicians began the writing process for the second studio album. During this time, Roberto Mammarella of Avantgarde Music offered Plateau Sigma a contract to release the album Rituals, which was recorded in the Igloo Audio Factory studios in September 2015 . The concept album, which deals with Roman mythology, was released in March 2016. The album, published by Avantgarde Music, received praise and reviews. To promote the album, the band toured Italy that same year, supporting groups such as Novembre and Ahab . Towards the end of 2019 followed with Symbols - The Sleeping Harmony of the World Below , another studio album, again released via Avantgarde Music, and widely positively received.

style

The style played by Plateau Sigma is considered to be an independent crossover of Dark Wave and Death Doom, the musical breadth of which takes up elements of Progressive Rock and Alternative and which, in its entirety, stands between Gothic Metal , Melodic Death Doom and Funeral Doom . For comparison, reference is made to groups such as Anathema and Paradise Lost . These performers as well as representatives of Funeral Doom, Dark Wave, Post- , Death- and Black-Metal are named by the band as influences. According to the webzine Doom-Metal.com , the music alternates “between a slow and heavy” but space-consuming sound and fast-paced, energetic passages. According to a review written for Crossfire Metal, the band “produces melodic and deep Doom sounds that never get too dark through alternating growls and clean vocals . Dark riffs are supported by echoing , clear and deep leads , and at times synths are added. ”Despite the slow basic tempo, the drumming remains dynamic up to the use of a“ double bass rhythm ”.
