Beaches and bays in Mallorca

Platja des Través (also Platja des Port de Sóller ) is a beach on the northwest coast of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located in the north-west of the municipality of Sóller within the village of Port de Sóller . The 610 meter long and 15 meter wide beach made of gravel and sand is located on the Passeig des Través embankment , behind which the development of the village begins.

Location and description

The Platja des Través is located on the east side of the Badia de Sóller ("Bay of Sóller"), a natural harbor bay on the northwest coast of Mallorca between Cap Gros and the small peninsula Racó de Santa Caterina with the headlands Punta de sa Creu and es Bufador . The south-western boundary of the beach is formed by the mouth of the Torrent Major , a torrent ( Torrent in Catalan ) that is fed from Sóller by the confluence of several smaller streams. The beach stretches from the Torrent Major on the east side of the bay northwards to the port of Port de Sóller, where it is interrupted in the middle by a sandless area with rocks.

The Tramvia de Sóller in front of the beach

Behind the Platja des Través runs the Tramvia de Sóller , the tram from Port de Sóller to Sóller. There are several train stops right next to the beach. The tram line turns at the southwest end of the beach, at Plaça de sa Torre , from the seashore inland, where it follows the course of the Torrent Major on the east side . The Torrent Major also forms the border between the Platja des Través and the continuing Platja den Repic , the beach on the south side of the Badia de Sóller .

Due to its location, the Platja des Través is very popular. There are showers on the beach and a parasol, deck chair and pedal boat rental on the north side. The somewhat coarse sand of the beach is cleaned daily during the season. The Platja des Través , which is monitored by lifeguards from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. , slopes gently into the sea. The boundary of the swimming area is marked by buoys to separate it from the shipping traffic that calls at the port of Port de Sóller, which is adjacent to the north. The port facilities of Port de Sóller are easy to see. The sandless area of the beach extends from Carrer de Lepanto in the north to Carrer d'Alaró in the south . In the basement of the development on Passeig des Través behind the beach there are restaurants, bars, cafes and shops. The Urbanització des Través , a settlement built into the mountain slope of sa Mola , joins the bank development in the east .

Access

Information board southwest of the beach

The Platja des Través has several beach accesses from Port de Sóller. On the east side of the beach, the tram goes from Sóller via s'Horta to Port de Sóller with several stops on the beach. The MA-11 road leads from Sóller to Port de Sóller. The old connection of the place, the Carretera del Port , merges into the Passeig des Través and leads behind the beach. In addition, there has been a connection since 2007 through the Túnel de sa Mola , which ends east of the port.
