Plato is a community in northwest Texas County in the US state of Missouri . Plato is about 30 kilometers north of Houston and 15 kilometers south of Fort Leonard Wood. The 2010 census found that 109 people lived there that year. The community was founded in 1874 and was named after the ancient Greek philosopher of the same name . Plato is the birthplace of screenwriter Josh Senter , best known for the television series Desperate Housewives . According to the 2010 census, Plato was the center of population of the United States of America.

According to the United States Census 2010, 109 people, 41 households and 35 families live in Plato. The population density this year was 110.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. There were 48 housing units at an average density of 48.8 units per square kilometer. The population was 95.4% white , 1.8% African American and Native American, and 0.9% other races .

Children under the age of 18 live in 34.1% of the total of 41 households, married couples live in around two thirds of households, 12.2% have a female head of the household, 7.3% of the existing households there live single men and 14.6 % represent other households that are not families. An average of 2.66 people live in each household; an average family consists of 2.83 family members.

The average age is 36.5 years. 28.4% of the population are minors, 7.4% of the population are between 18 and 24 years old. About a quarter of the population is between 25 and 44 years old and almost 24% are 65 years or older. 50.5% of the population is female, the rest male.

In March 2011, Plato was declared the population center of the United States. This midpoint migrates southwest about 20 to 30 miles per decade; In 1980 De Soto , a city also in Missouri, was the center of the population; Twenty years later it was found near the town of Edgar Springs .

Transport links

Waynesville Regional Airport at Forney Field is responsible for aviation in this region . It is operated by the cities of Waynesville and St. Robert and is available for both civilian use by private pilots and commercial airlines.

The Route 17 is the main north-south connection. It crosses Interstate 44 at Buckhorn, passes through Waynesville, and then turns towards Crocker. The Highway 32 runs west of Route 17 and runs through Plato and Lynchburg.
