Plato Rossetus

Platon Rossetos ( Greek Πλάτων Ρωσσέτος , also Ρωσέτος, * 1896 ; † October 6, 1944 in Aronas ) was a Greek brewer and beverage manufacturer from Eastern Thrace . He was mayor of Katerini from 1937 to 1938 .

Life

Plato Rossetos came from Eastern Thrace and was a refugee. He worked as a beverage maker and seller all his life. In 1937 he was elected mayor of Katerini by the people, but dismissed by the Greek dictator Ioannis Metaxas (Greek Ιωάννης Μεταξάς). In February 1938 he was elected President of the Fraternal Sanatorium of Petra .

During the occupation , Rossetos was arrested and imprisoned along with many others. The leading journalist of his time in the Pieria , Savvas Kantartzis (Greek Σάββας Κανταρτζής), who described the tragic death of Rossetus in his memoirs, had visited him in prison to prepare his defense in court.

Rossetos was executed at the age of 48 by the partisans of ELAS along with 49 other people in Aronas. Civilians were also executed with him. The Pieria was one of the rare regions where executions by ELAS partisans took place.
