The Platu 25 (also Bénéteau 25 ) is a fast and manoeuvrable sailing yacht of 7.5 m or 25 feet in length and 2.5 m in width. She has a draft of 1.58 m and a sail area of up to 34 m² upwind. The spinnaker is approx. 45 m².
The design of the yacht was developed by the construction office Bruce Farr , who had it constructed in 1996 as a Platu by McDell Marine in New Zealand. A year later, the French manufacturer Bénéteau added the boat as the Bénéteau 25 to its range. Other producers followed and the general name Platu 25 was finally established .
Under this name, the boat was recognized by the ISAF as an international standard class in 2005 and the German class association was founded the following year . There are other active class associations. B. in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Austria, Japan, Thailand and New Zealand.
Around 450 units had been built up to 2006.
