( Roßäßler , 1842)

Platyla banatica is a living on the land snail from the family of aciculidae (Aciculidae) in the order of architaenioglossa ( "Alt-Bandzüngler").

features

The right-hand wound, spindle-shaped, relatively large cases are 3.95 to 5.4 mm high and 1.35 to 1.65 mm wide. They have 5¾ to 6¾ slightly arched, regularly and gradually increasing turns with a blunt apex . The penultimate passage increases and the last passage reaches about half the total height of the case. The seam is comparatively deep, but not provided with an edge or a suture thread. In the frontal view, the mouth is obliquely pear-shaped and pointed at the top. The height of the mouth is 1.15 to 1.50 mm, the width of the mouth 0.8 to 1.0 mm. In the side view, the edge of the mouth is slightly convex to the front and almost straight. The edge of the mouth is enlarged, especially at the base and on the spindle side. There is a distinct parietal callus while the angularis is poorly developed. The umbilical callus is only a very thin layer and narrower than the spindle envelope. This means that the umbilical callus can be covered. The rounded neck bulge is strongly developed. When viewed from the side, it is highest in the middle or slightly behind the middle. The rear end of the neck bulge usually breaks off suddenly. The casing is horn-brown to yellow-brown, the surface is smooth and shiny.

Similar species

There is no other similar Platyla species in the range of the species or its surroundings . Platyla pinteri is about the same size, but has a slimmer housing with flatter walls. The mouth is narrower and the neck bulge is less high and narrower. Platyla foliniana is larger and has a higher neck bulge . Platyla elisabethae has a similar size and a narrower neck bulge, but it is higher and much stronger. This also slopes concave at the rear.

Geographical distribution, occurrence and way of life

The distribution area of the species extends from southern Hungary and western Romania via Serbia , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Montenegro and Macedonia to northern Albania . It lives there at higher altitudes in damp locations in the mud of forests or between scree, usually on a chalky subsoil. In Romania the species also lives in caves.
