The long-feeler weevil ( Platystomos albinus ) is a beetle from the family of the weevil (Anthribidae). Another common names for it are White anthribidae, Big anthribidae, Weißfleckiger mouth beetles , scale insect-anthribidae or brush beetle .
features
The beetles are 6 to 12 millimeters long. They are light gray to black-brown with light markings. Bright, mostly white spots on the top of the trunk, forehead, the middle and tips of the wing covers make the animal noticeable. The antennae are not kneeled, the eighth phalanx is hairy white. The pronotum has three black tufts of bristles.
Occurrence
Platystomos albinus lives in clearings and on the edges of deciduous forests in Europe (except in the north), Asia Minor , North Africa and Siberia .
Way of life
The beetles and their larvae feed on tree fungi . The breeding season is from April, the female lays the eggs in the dead wood of beech and alder , but also other trees such as oak , birch or willow . The larva gnaws in the dead wood and pupates there too. The life expectancy of the beetles is three to four months.
