history

The Pleistal had belonged to the Kingdom of Prussia since 1815 and was assigned to the Rhine Province , with the administrative seat in Koblenz. The Rhine province was divided into administrative districts, with the Pleistal belonging to the Cologne district and being economically influenced by there. In addition, the Pleistal was part of the Siegkreis and extended over the rural communities of Oberpleis, Niederpleis and Stieldorf. After the unification of the empire in 1871, the Pleistal also belonged to the German Empire.

By 1894, the Brölthaler Eisenbahn-Actien-Gesellschaft completed the section of the Bröltalbahn from Niederpleis via Oberpleis and Herresbach to Rostingen in several stages within its narrow-gauge network.
