The Pošta Crne Gore ( English Montenegro Post ) is the national postal company of Montenegro . It was founded on December 31, 1998 following the split of PTT Montenegro into two separate companies. Today Pošta Crne Gore employs more than 1000 people.

history

The beginnings of postal services in Montenegro go back to the 15th century when couriers transported mail to Constantinople through what is now Montenegro. The foundation stone of the public postal service in Montenegro was laid in 1841. An Austrian post office was opened on the territory of Montenegro as early as 1854. At the beginning of the 1870s, Montenegro opened its first post office and in 1874 the small country issued the first postage stamp with the image of King Nikola . In 1913 the company issued its own stamps for the last time, as Montenegro was then part of Yugoslavia .

Pošta Crne Gore was founded on December 31, 1998 alongside Crnogorski Telekom as one of the successor companies of PTT Montenegro.

On December 15, 2005, Montenegro was able to resume issuing its own postage stamps. Joined the Universal Postal Union on July 26, 2006 and became a member of PostEurop on January 17, 2008 .
