The road branches off to the northeast about 12 km north of Steppes from the Lake Highway and reaches the west bank of Arthur's Lake at Flintstone . From there it leads north through the Central Plateau Conservation Area in the central highlands and through the settlement of Cramps on the east bank of the Great Lake to Mount Blackwood in the Great Western Tiers .
