The Adriatic wall lizard ( Podarcis melisellensis ), also Karst runner called, is a lizard from the genus of lizards , which in the area of Adria is located.
features
The Adriatic wall lizard is a rather small lizard (body size: five to 6.5 centimeters, the tail is twice as long). The head is relatively short.
In the male, the back is speckled on a green, olive or brown background, often the back is also monochrome. It has a blue patch on the shoulder and a red or yellow belly side. The female is clearly longitudinally striped, it shows a broad green central band on the back with two light side stripes. This central band often shows a central line speckled brown. The female has a white belly.
distribution and habitat
The distribution area of the species extends along the Adriatic coast from northeast Italy , over Croatia , Montenegro to the north of Albania and also includes the offshore Croatian islands . It lives in the dry flat and hilly country at an altitude of up to 1300 meters, especially on karst areas with few trees and a few bushes. 20 subspecies are currently described.
