Polaskia chende is a species of plant in the genus Polaskia from the cactus family(Cactaceae). A Spanish common name is "Chende".

description

Polaskia chende grows tree-shaped, branches near the shoot tips and reaches stature heights of up to 4 meters with a clear trunk up to 80 centimeters in height and diameters of 25 to 30 centimeters. The yellowish green, straight or slightly curved shoots are 40 to 50 centimeters long and 5 to 7 centimeters in diameter. There are 7 to 9 ribs that are somewhat arched on the back and are separated from one another by wide furrows. The circular, dark areoles are up to 2 centimeters apart. There is no central spine , the 5 (rarely 3 to 6) awl radial spines are gray and 0.5 to 1.5 centimeters long.

The individual, fragrant, white flowers open in the morning. They reach a diameter of up to 5 centimeters. Your pericarpel is covered with raised bumps and long, gold-colored bristles and hair. The spherical fruits have a diameter of 3.5 to 4 centimeters and are covered with short, thin tufts of thorns.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Polaskia chende is common in the Mexican states of Oaxaca and Puebla . The first description as Cereus chende was published in 1905 by Robert Roland-Gosselin . Arthur Charles Gibson and Karl E. Horak placed them in 1979 in the genus Polaskia .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
