Polaskia chichipe is a species of plant in the genus Polaskia from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Spanish common names are "Chichibe", "Chichipe", "Chichitun" and "Chichituna".
description
Polaskia chichipe grows tree-shaped, branches near the shoot tips and forms conspicuous crowns. It reaches heights of growth of up to 4 meters and sometimes forms a distinct trunk. The green, slightly curved shoots are less than 1 meter long and up to 7 centimeters in diameter. There are 9 to 12 sharp-edged ribs that are slightly arched on the back and are up to 2 centimeters high. The areoles are 1 to 1.5 centimeters apart. The thorns are gray and have a darker tip. The single central spine is up to 1.5 centimeters long, the 6 to 8 radial spines 0.3 to 1.5 centimeters long.
The yellowish green to creamy white flowers open at night. They are up to 4 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 3 to 4 centimeters. Your pericarpel is bald. The spherical fruits are deep reddish purple and have a diameter of up to 2.5 centimeters.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Polaskia chichipe is common in the Mexican states of Oaxaca and Puebla . The first description as Cereus chichipe was published in 1905 by Robert Roland-Gosselin . Curt Backeberg placed the species in the genus Polaskia in 1949 .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
