Policy of 3 (more rarely Policy of Three ) was an influential Emocore - band from New Jersey / USA .

history

The band was founded in New Jersey in 1989 , which is why they are often - at least geographically - one of the New York hardcore punk bands . Attitudes and politics were very important to the band from the very beginning. The band also wanted to consciously oppose some of the right-wing attitudes that were emerging, especially those in the New York hardcore punk environment, that had nothing to do with hardcore.

Former singer and guitarist Jeffrey Fischer describes the time in which the band was formed and the related reasons for their personal and political attitudes as follows:

“The real motivation behind the band and the urgency directed to our music probably had more to do with the absurdities which were frequently and consistently expelled from the hardcore / punk scene before and during our early days as a band. This was a time of skinheads and the spectacular implosion of the straightedge scene on the East Coast when the self-righteous fell off the wagon. This was a time of Hare Krishna and vegan fascism […] This was a time of creeping commercialism and slick professionalism. This was a time when hardcore bands praised the Gulf War. "

-

The band saw itself as a straight edge band and had a (left) political claim, just like the members were vegan .

In 1995 the band was on a European tour and also played in Germany.

After the band split up in 1995, some of the former members continued to play in other bands. The bassist Eric “Bull” Gervasi plays or played later with Montag and Rambo or the famous and influential emo band Four Hundred Years . Chris Fry currently plays drums at Melquiades .

Surname

The name of the band is related to modern Chinese history and also shows the (left) political attitude of the band. In the 1930s, peasants, although actually peaceful, fought against the ruling large landowners with violence or counterviolence and so fought for their freedom and against oppression.

style

The band's style is typical of the emo genre and is characterized by mid-tempo DC Hardcore with changes in tempo and volume, more melancholy vocal parts and harsh screaming and half-screaming song parts. Whereby the two alternating and complementary vocal parts are characteristic of the band.

The band itself was also influenced by the hardcore punk and emo bands of the east coast.

On the label Ebullition Records you can read about the influence of the band:

"Policy of 3 helped to define this sound / genera and this release is an amazing testament to one of the great hardcore bands from that time."
