Polissoir by Féchain
The Féchain Polissoir is a large Neolithic whetstone in Féchain on the edge of the Nord department in France . It's on Rue Louis Chantreau in the center of Féchain. It is accessible but protected by a glass case.
The largest polissoir in the region is a 1.9 m high and 1.1 m wide sandstone monolith with a weight of about 7 t. Its upper part is provided with ten bowls and six grinding grooves. The stone dates from the Neolithic Age and was used to polish axes , creating the grooves on the top. The stone was found as a 4.0 m long and 2.0 m wide block in Aubencheul-au-Bac on the right bank of the Sensée . It broke during the recovery and was brought to Féchain.
The megalith has been listed as a Monument historique since 1980 .
