Politikum has been a quarterly political science journal since 2015 . Its aim is to make complex political issues accessible to a wider audience through proven experts. It is the successor to the journal political education founded by Walter Gagel in 1967 .
The structure of the magazine always follows the same pattern: one thematic focus per issue, followed by an interview part, the opinion part "Pros and Cons", a forum for dealing with current topics and collective discussions on the respective focus area as well as reviews from the social sciences and political didactics .
On the occasion of the first issue in 2015, Deutschlandfunk described the magazine as a "courageous, even defiant newspaper project".
