The polytrichum juniperinum ( Polytrichum juniperinum ) is a moss of the genus Polytrichum ( Polytrichum ).

description

It grows 2, at times to 7 inches tall. It forms lawns or flocks. The leaves with only a short reddish tip are gradually pointed and at least 1 centimeter long. The laminar edges are narrow. When dry, the leaflets are loosely curved and close to the stem, while when wet, they expand. The hoods are white.

It differs from the habitually similar stiff-leaved woman's hair ( Polytrichum strictum ) by larger sporogons , the lack of a wick-like rhizoid felt , by larger leaves and the type of foliage.

Distribution and location

The moss is distributed worldwide from the plains to the high mountains. It is also found in tropical mountains and in the high Alps. It grows in sunny and dry places on lime-free sand and silicate rubble soils outside the limestone areas. It can often be found on railway grounds and similar exposed locations.
