Ubaldo Oppi

Ubaldo Oppi (born July 25, 1889 in Bologna , † October 25, 1942 in Vicenza ) was an Italian painter .

He was temporarily a pupil of Gustav Klimt in Vienna (1907), continued his education in Paris from 1911 through independent work and from 1919 onwards he achieved a large, plastic, clear conception of body shape in the classical sense. He created compositions rich in figures ( The Fishermen of Santo Spirito , 1923) and impressive portraits. From 1923 to 1926 Oppi painted a large altarpiece depicting the martyrdom of St. Venantius in the arch parish church of Valdobbiadene .

Oppi was a founding member of the Novecento artist group .
