Poonthura ( Malayalam പൂന്തുറ Pūntuṟa [ ˈpuːn̪d̪ura ]) is a suburb of Thiruvananthapuram , the capital of the state of Kerala , and part of its Municipal Corporation in the south-western part of India . Poonthura is close to Trivandrum International Airport .
Location
Poonthura consists of several smaller settlements that stretch along the coast as a whole. In addition to Hinduism and Islam , Christianity is the most pronounced religion.
A bypass of the national highway NH 47 crosses Poonthura towards Kovalam . Kerala State Road Transport Corporation's passenger buses travel between Poonthura and the East Fort and Thiruvananthapuram. Various other parts of the city can also be reached by bus. Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is only six kilometers away.

economy
Most of the locals are fishermen . Some of the residents are also employed in the Persian Gulf region.
