Popke Oosterhof

Popke Oosterhof (born August 3, 1947 in Assen ) is a former Dutch cyclist .

Athletic career

Oosterhof had its particular strengths as a stage driver . He had his first success as an amateur in 1968 with a stage win and third place in the overall ranking of the Tour of Mexico . In 1969 he won five stages of the British Milk Race and finished the tour in second place behind his compatriot Fedor den Hertog . He also won the points rating for the tour. He won a stage of the Tour de l'Avenir in late summer and was 11th in the overall classification. At the UCI Road World Championships in Brno in 1969 he finished fourth in the victory of Leif Mortensen . In 1970 he made several larger tours. In the International Tour of the Rhineland Palatinate , he was just second behind Karl-Heinz Muddemann . He had a chance to win the tour. The team-internal rivalry with Tino Tabak prevented the tour victory for both of them, despite three stage wins.

He won two stages on the domestic Olympia's Tour . Also in the Tour of Belgium and the Tour of Bulgaria he had a number of top placings on individual sections of the day. In August he started with the Dutch four at the UCI Road World Championships in the team time trial and won the bronze medal. In 1971 he won another stage in the milk race and was classified there in 4th place. In the fall of 1970 he got his license as a professional driver , but gave it back that same year.
