Popokabaka is a city in Kwango Province , Democratic Republic of the Congo . It is the administrative seat of the Popokabaka Territory.
Popokabaka is located on the right bank of the Kwango River . Francis Dhanis, a representative of the Congo Free State, established a station here in 1890. In the southwest the territory borders on Angola . The city has long been a trading center for Portuguese traders, who sold goods and bought local products here.
The city is the seat of the Roman Catholic diocese of Popokabaka .
The city is approached via Popokabaka Airport. It has a 1140 m long grass landing area .
