history

Early history

A document proves that Poppo von Stierberg sold fiefdoms of the Dukes of Andechs-Meranien to the convent in "Poppenrewt" in 1207 with the consent of the Bamberg bishop ; however, the connection with Poppenreuth is not certain. In the 14th century, the Notthracht family incorporated the village of their expanding Weissenstein rule . Therefore there were quarrels with the Waldsassen monastery, which was also looking to increase its property . The Waldsassen monastery claimed to have acquired the Weißenstein with the associated villages Poppenreuth, Alt-Wiesau, Gefell, Masch and Hard as early as 1295.

In 1354 Albrecht Notthracht von Thierstein renounced his claims regarding the villages of Poppenreuth and Helmbrechts in favor of the Waldsassen monastery. In return, the people of Waldsassen ceded their village of Leuken, later Marktleuthen , not far from Thierstein . In 1365 the Waldsassen Monastery exchanged the village of Poppenreuth for the wasteland of Altenwiesau with Albrecht Notthracht the Elder of Thierstein. With this Poppenreuth came back to the Weissenstein rule and became the property of the Notthracht family.

Reorganization

The community of Poppenreuth was created on July 1, 1972 through the merger of the previously independent communities of Helmbrechts and Hohenhard. It was dissolved on January 1, 1978. Most of them were incorporated into the town of Waldershof. A small part of the area with about ten inhabitants came to Pullenreuth .
