Porta pulpit

The Porta-pulpit is a steeply sloping southwest to west sandstone -Fels cliff of the Wesergebirge located Jakobsbergs ( 235.2  m above sea level.  NHN ). It is located in North Rhine-Westphalia Minden-Lübbecke within the territory of the city Porta Westfalica north of the district local mountains and east above the between Weser and Wiehengebirge lying Weser breakthrough Porta Westfalica .

For the tourist development in 1877 a viewing platform was created, which allows a good view of the southern part of the breakthrough valley and the Kaiser Wilhelm monument in the Wiehengebirge on the other side of the Weser .

During the Middle Ages, the Antonius Chapel was located on this part of the mountain. During the Second World War, former ore mining tunnels in the Weser Mountains were developed as an underground production facility under the Porta pulpit . This U relocation was done to protect armaments production from Allied air raids. Some of the entrances were blown up after the war, changing the western part of the Porta pulpit.
