Scheme Portal Tomb

The Portal Tomb of Ardcroney (on the OS map as "Laghtacarn" lists), on a gentle hill in the farmland of County Tipperary in Ireland . In the British Isles, portal tombs are megalithic systems in which two upright stones of the same height form the front of the chamber and form the "door frame" in the shape of an H with the usually only half-height door stone . Most of this type of facility is located in the eastern half of Ireland. To the west of the Donegal - Cork line , only about two dozen of the 185 known systems (three in County Tipperary) are represented.

The west-east oriented chamber has a relocated capstone 2.2 m long, 1.8 m wide and 0.45 m thick. He is leaning against the west end of the side stone. In the east there is a 2.25 m high portal stone and a 1.7 m high side stone leans against it. A shifted plate measuring 1.9 m lies in front of the outer sides of the orthostats .
