Porten (Norwegian for gate ) is a mountain pass in Queen Maud Land, East Antarctica . In Gjelsvikfjella it is between Von Essenskarvet and Nupskammen .
The first aerial photographs were taken during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of Alfred Ritscher . Norwegian cartographers gave the pass its name and mapped it based on surveys and aerial photographs of the Norwegian-British-Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1949–1952) and aerial photographs of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960) made between 1958 and 1959 .
