The From Essenskarvet is in Portnipa with 2,665 m summit Direction Berg in East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It rises at the southwest end of Gjelsvikfjella .
The first aerial photos of the mountain were taken during the German Antarctic Expedition (1938–1939) under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . Norwegian cartographers, who also named it, carried out a mapping based on aerial photographs and surveys of the Norwegian-British-Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1949–1952) and aerial photographs of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960). It is named after Reinhold Göran Johan David von Essen (1913–1970), head of the Swedish Air Force unit on the Norwegian-British-Swedish Antarctic Expedition.
