Portnipa ( Norwegian for Torspitze is) of the 2665 m high summit of From Essenskarvet in gjelsvik mountains of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Lands . It rises at the southwest end of Gjelsvikfjella.
The first aerial photos of the mountain were taken during the German Antarctic Expedition (1938–1939) under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . Norwegian cartographers, who also named it after the neighboring mountain pass Porten , carried out a mapping based on aerial photographs and surveys of the Norwegian-British-Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1949–1952) and aerial photographs of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960) taken between 1958 and 1959 .
