Position Alpha is a Swedish saxophone ensemble that was founded in the early 1980s and comes from the field of jazz .
history
The ensemble first appeared at Swedish festivals in the 1980s; Their first album, Don't Bring Your Dog , was released in 1983, followed by the legendary album The Great Sound Of Sound a year later . Position Alpha was one of the saxophone combos that developed the concept of the World Saxophone Quartet - similar to the 29th Street Saxophone Quartet , the Rova Saxophone Quartet , the English formation Itchy Fingers , the Dutch saxophone sextet De Zes Winden , the Austrian quartet Saxofour , as well as the Cologne Saxophone Mafia - have pursued or expanded.
The Swedish quartet or quintet is considered a European pioneer in this form ; With anarchic wit, "Position Alpha" let the wildness and gloom of punk burst into the realm of the saxophone ensemble, but also phrased the sea shanties of Swedish folk music with particular devotion . For the recording of the album "Yeti", the band was reactivated in 2000 with a different line-up, but could not meet the high expectations regarding the vitality of the original line-up of the 1980s.
