Post.24 station in Vienna-Spittelau

The Post.24 station of Austrian Post was from late 2006 until May 2014 a system of automatic parcel of German similar packing station , which from the same manufacturer (the KEBA AG were produced).

Pilot phase

In the pilot phase since November 24, 2006, there were 24 fully automatic parcel machines in Vienna , from which the recipient could pick up parcels at any time of the day or night. Since May 2012 there has also been a parcel machine in St. Pölten , Graz , Salzburg , Eisenstadt and Innsbruck . The parcel machines were located at highly frequented places (train stations, supermarkets and petrol stations) as well as at post offices that could be easily reached by public transport.

If a postman did not find the recipient at the delivery address (e.g. apartment), he could also deposit the parcel in the parcel machine. In this case, the receiver was in his home mailbox a so-called "Post.24-collection card" with barcode stored. Whether the mail carrier made use of it or, as before, deposited the parcel at the respective delivery post office for collection by the recipient, was at the discretion of the deliverer and could not be influenced by either the sender or the recipient.

However, since the beginning of 2012 it has been possible to have a parcel delivered to a specific station when it is posted at a post office.

At the end of May 2014, the service was initially discontinued without giving any reasons: The corresponding page of the Austrian Post says:

“The Post 24 service will be discontinued on May 31, 2014. Please note that shipping to the parcel machines is only possible until the end of May. "

Only in mid-June did Austrian Post make it clear:

“… The previous Post 24 parcel machines will be brought up to date with the latest technology over the summer months and converted into collection stations. The expanded network of collection stations will be available to you as early as autumn 2014. "

handling

As soon as a parcel had arrived, the customer was informed of this by email and / or SMS , or, if the delivery attempt was unsuccessful, a notification with a barcode in his mailbox. The use of the parcel machines was free for both private and business customers.

Letters, small packages and small parcels could not be delivered or received via Post.24 stations.

Parcels could be handed in at any parcel machine if the recipient paid for the postage. It was also possible to create a package brand on the internet. The postage was paid according to the package dimensions. If a package was picked up with the "Post.24 collection card" (as a result of an unsuccessful delivery attempt), only this "Post.24 collection card" with the barcode printed on it had to be held in front of the camera system and the recipient's name had to be typed in to check to receive the package. An email address or a mobile phone with SMS functionality was not required to collect the parcel.
