The Post-Sportverein Hamburg von 1925 eV (short: Post SV Hamburg) was a sports club from Hamburg . In addition to the main sport of football , he recently offered basketball , tennis , Taekwon-Do , shooting and bowling .

history

The association was founded on June 25, 1925 by a small group of Hamburg postal workers as the " Sports Association of the German Reichspost, Telegraphic Technical Department V ". Two years later the association was given its current name. In the initial phase, the club grew rapidly, so that numerous departments with the main sports athletics , football, handball and fistball were soon created. Initially located on a sports field in Sengelmannstrasse, on September 1, 1935, the club moved into the newly created sports facility at Am Forsthof in Barmbek , where, in addition to a small football stadium with a running track, all other necessary sports facilities were located.

Not least because of the affiliation of the previously independent post sports clubs from Rahlstedt , Bergedorf , Harburg-Wilhelmsburg and Altona on July 1, 1938, Post SV Hamburg was one of the sports clubs with the largest number of members at that time with 2500 active athletes. During the Second World War , the club had to change its name to Post-Sportgemeinschaft Hamburg due to the decision of a Nazi commission in July 1940 . After the end of the war, the old club name, which is still valid today, was taken over again on April 26, 1946.

Because of the planned new construction of the Steilshoop housing estate , the club had to leave its Am Forsthof sports facility. The property owner terminated the existing contracts as early as 1959, but after negotiations agreed to conclude one-year lease contracts with Post SV. An uncertain situation that came to an end in 1968 when the final loss of the sports facility was determined. Although the city of Hamburg made a new sports facility available to the club, the Karl Hülbert sports center, which was completed in 1971 (later named after the first chairman who was responsible for the move), is located in Hamburg-Farmsen , considerably from the old location located in Barmbek. In addition, the sports facility was built on a former clay pit that was used as a garbage dump until 1966. Due to the health risk to be feared from this, consideration is now being given to renovating the area.

On April 29, 2013, the Executive Board presented not least because of the steadily declining number of members (from about 2,500 in 1938 to just 350 in April 2013) and the huge maintenance costs for the sports facility at the Hamburg District Court an application for insolvency , so the club in July 2013 resolved and has been deleted from the register of associations.

Soccer

Two years after the club was founded, a Post SV football team also took part in the games organized by the umbrella association for the first time. After the missed promotion to the Gauliga on September 24, 1939 by a 2: 4 against Rasensport Harburg, they played in the 1st class Germania, the second highest division at the time, until 1943. During the time of the Second World War , like almost all sports clubs, it was only with great difficulty that complete teams succeeded. So they first merged with HSV Barmbek-Uhlenhorst to form KSG Post / BU. A year later, the merger with SV St. Georg and SC Sperber to form KSG Alsterdorf (KSG = war game community ), with which they played in the Gauliga.

After the end of the war, they qualified for the highest German division, the Hamburg City League . Here one reached u. a. behind Hamburger SV , FC St. Pauli and Altona 93 only ninth place, but there was enough space to stay up. After the formation of the league in 1947, the first team stayed in the second highest division (then amateur league) and failed in 1950 as a champion in the promotion games to the Oberliga Nord.

After many important players had left the club, a steady relegation followed, which culminated at the end of the 1977/78 season with relegation to the district league. Post SV Hamburg played for a long time in the District League North (Hamburg), after having given two short guest appearances in the State League (1991/92 and 2002 to 2004). In the summer of 2008, he was relegated to the district league again. After two years in the district league, Post SV Hamburg managed to get promoted back to the district league in 2010, but was only able to stay there for two years.

When Post SV filed for bankruptcy in 2013 and dissolved, it played in the district league (eighth league). His last season, 2012/13, was not played to the end because the team withdrew from the league before the end of the season.

The Alte Herren des Post SV Hamburg qualified for the German championship for the second time (after 2005 - 16th place) in 2010. In 2011 in Weimar they finished 6th among 32 teams.
