Poul Hagelstein (* 1825 in Holstein ; † March 4, 1868 in Brussels ) was a Danish portrait and genre painter .

Poul Hagelstein studied from 1846 to 1851 at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen . After 1848 he showed his works at the academy exhibitions. 1857 he took part in the opening exhibition of the Kunsthalle zu Kiel.

He spent 1859 in London, where he took part in the exhibition at the British Institution for Promoting the Fine Arts in The United Kingdom .

He received orders from the Danish royal family. Both Frederick VII and Christian IX. Appreciated his art, including his genre and history paintings, particularly addressing subjects from the 16th century. Around 1866 he painted the portraits of George I of Greece and Christian IX for the Hall of the Regents at Miramare Palace on behalf of Archduke Maximilian . from Denmark.

After graduating, he settled in Brussels, where he also continued his education. In this city he remained active as a portrait and genre painter for life. He also sent to the Copenhagen academy exhibition. Hagelstein died at the age of 43.
