PowerPoint karaoke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The PowerPoint Karaoke is an offshoot of the classic karaoke , in which participants sing any lyrics, but from the impromptu not known a talk to them before, keep randomly selected slides. These can either be specially created or you can use slides that you found on the Internet. It is a rhetorical, presentation training game with an entertainment character. Sometimes it is now also used as an improv theater or theater sport game.

origin

On April 13, 2005, a nonsense article created using the SCIgen software by three MIT students named Jeremy Stribling, Max Krohn and Dan Aguayo was admitted to the 9th World Multi-Conference on Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics without being examined . After the article was ultimately rejected due to reports on the Slashdot website , the three students rented their own conference room to give lectures on computer-generated nonsense slide sets.

places

PowerPoint karaoke events are currently taking place in Hamburg, Tübingen, Krefeld, Bochum, Berlin, Vienna and Stuttgart, among others. The organizers often come from the poetry slam scene, such as Hinnerk Köhn (Hamburg), Jean Philippe Kindler (Tübingen) or Johannes Floehr (Krefeld).

In Switzerland, the Folientango association organizes an annual finale with the best presenters in PowerPoint karaoke. The association also carries out PowerPoint karaoke in Zurich, Bern and Basel.

Invention process and naming

The Powerpoint karaoke format was developed by the Central Intelligence Agency ; the world premiere took place in January 2006 in Berlin. The name Powerpoint Karaoke alludes to the PowerPoint presentation software of the same name from Microsoft .

Game objective

Powerpoint karaoke offers an opportunity to improve rhetorical skills in a playful way. It can also be viewed as a parody of pointless presentations .
