The presidential election in Israel 2021 took place on June 2nd of that year. A successor was sought for President Reuven Rivlin from Likud , whose seven-year term ends on July 9th. The 120 members of the country's parliament, the Knesset , were eligible to vote after the election in March 2021 .

The support of at least ten Knesset members was required for a candidacy. It was reached by the chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel and former head of the Labor Party , Jitzchak Herzog , as well as the teacher and Israel Prize winner Miriam Peretz , whose circle of supporters was more right-wing and religious. The actor and singer Yehoram Gaon and the former Knesset MPs Michael Bar-Zohar and Jehuda Glick were also interested in running, but failed to meet the quorum .

Result

The Knesset elected Herzog as the new president with 87 votes. Peretz received 26 votes.
