Uggal Dena Pathiranalage Pradeep Sanjaya ( April 29, 1986 ) is a Sri Lankan athlete in disabled sports . He competes in classification group T46 .

Career

Pathirana was seriously injured in an artillery explosion during his army service in 2008 in his left hand and arm, both of which have only been usable to a very limited extent since then. Two years later he started playing disabled sports and shortly afterwards was able to celebrate his first major triumph with the gold medal at the Para-Asian Games over 400 meters.

At the 2012 Summer Paralympic Games in London , he represented his country just four years after his accident. While he missed the final in the 200-meter run, he secured third place over 400 meters and thus won the first ever Paralympic medal for Sri Lanka. He was able to repeat this success at the World Athletics Championships for the disabled in Lyon in 2013 , when he again won the bronze medal in the 400-meter run. However, he failed in the semifinals over 200 meters, with the 4 x 100 meter relay (T42-T46) he finished in 6th place.
