Prafulla Dahanukar (* 1934 in Goa ; † March 1, 2014 in Mumbai ) was an Indian painter .

life and work

Prafulla Dahanukar grew up in Mumbai , where she studied at the Sir JJ School of Art . In 1955 she graduated with honors and received a grant from the French government to study in Paris in 1961. After successfully completing her studies, she returned to her home country. Prafulla Dahanukar won a prize at the annual exhibition of the Bombay Art Society shortly after her first degree , and her own exhibitions followed regularly from 1956. Her works have been exhibited in many countries such as Germany, England, France, Australia and Japan and can be seen in various museums in India, such as the Prince of Wales Museum or the National Gallery of Modern Art . Her main work consists of abstract art , often landscapes, which she called Eternal Space . She wanted to express her fascination for the infinity of space. She also worked on wall painting and was President of the Art Society of India and Chair of the Artists' Center in Mumbai.
