National Gallery of Modern Art

The National Gallery of Modern Art ( NGMA ) ( German National Gallery of Modern Art ) is an art museum in India . The Delhi Museum was founded on March 29, 1954 by the Government of India. A secondary location followed in Mumbai in 1996 and another in Bangalore in 2006 .

collection

The museum shows sculptures and pictures mainly by Indian artists. The spectrum ranges from traditional miniature painting (from the 16th century) to contemporary Indian art. Over 14,000 works by Indian artists such as Thomas Daniell , Prafulla Dahanukar , Raja Ravi Varma , Abanindranath Tagore , Rabindranath Tagore , Gaganendranath Tagore , Nandalal Bose , Jamini Roy , Amrita Sher-Gil , Dayanita Singh as well as international artists are exhibited in the museum.

Delhi

The Delhi Museum is located on Rajpath Boulevard in the building formerly known as Jaipur House , which was once the seat of the Maharajas of Jaipur . The museum opened in 1954 and another wing was added in 2009. The first director of the gallery was the German art historian Hermann Goetz (1898–1976).

Mumbai

The Mumbai branch is located in the Colaba district . The exhibition opened in 1996 and contains works by Pablo Picasso and a section for Egyptian art.

Bangalore

The Bangalore branch is located in the Manikyavelu building on Palace Road . The exhibition shows around 500 works from various fields, including a large collection of contemporary Indian artists.
