Pragoti Industries

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pragoti Industries Limited ( Bengali প্রগতি , 'progress', in some sources also Pragati ) is a Bangladeshi automobile manufacturer based in Barabkund . The company is part of the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC) and is state-owned.

history

The company was founded in 1966 under the name Ghandara and began producing automobiles. Another source mentions 1965 for the start of production of commercial vehicles. After Bangladesh gained independence in 1972, the company was nationalized.

In 1978 the annual production was 650 pieces. For the Mitsubishi Pajero, an annual production of 300 units was agreed in 2011.

in 2013 Pragoti had 357 employees.

In 2017, the company's technical and economic capabilities were seriously questioned by the Treasury and a 2018 closure could not be ruled out (which apparently did not happen).

Models

Initially, vehicles were manufactured by General Motors . The production of the Vauxhall Viva began . From 1974 a light commercial vehicle (BTV) was assembled by General Motors.

From 1992 (or 1998) vehicles of the Mitsubishi brand are assembled. Different versions of the Mitsubishi Pajero were produced . After this contract expired in the mid-2010s, a contract was signed with Mahindra & Mahindra to assemble the Scorpio model .

The approximately 50,000 vehicles produced by the 2010s included passenger cars, jeeps, buses (of the Tata brand ), trucks and tractors. There is also evidence of the production of Maruti and Nissan vehicles (ambulances).
