Prahran

Prahran is a district of Melbourne in the state of Victoria in Australia . It is five kilometers from the city center. The place name is derived from the Aboriginal term "purraran" and means - due to the proximity to the Yarra River and Albert Park Lake - "predominantly surrounded by water".

At first Prahran was a settlement area for farmers, after the gold rush in the 1850s it became a workers' settlement.
