Albert Park is a district of the Australian city of Melbourne , about 3 km south of the city center. Its population was 6,215 in 2016.

The Albert Park , which gave the area its name, is the Albert Park Lake in the middle of one of the biggest parks of Melbourne and an important recreation area. The park was named in honor of Albert von Sachsen-Coburg and Gotha , husband of Queen Victoria of England . The park is also home to the Albert Park Circuit , where the Australian Grand Prix has been held every year since 1996 as the Formula 1 season opener .
