The Pregnan X receptor ( abbreviation : PXR, NR1I2; English pregnane X receptor ) is a nuclear receptor whose main task is to detect toxic exogenous substances and to activate the expression of proteins that are responsible for detoxification and clearance .
The receptor is activated by endogenous and exogenous substances, such as B. steroids, antibiotics, bile acids and environmental contaminants such. B. non- dioxin-like PCBs . Via its DNA binding domain, it binds to hormones responsive elements such as B. those of the CYP3A4 promoter.
