Symmerus annulatus is a Fly from the family of Ditomyiidae .

features

The flies are 7.5 to 8 millimeters long and therefore relatively large and noticeable. Her forehead is raised, her head is flattened in front. The compound eyes are kidney-shaped. There are three point eyes ( ocelli ). The palps are four-limbed, with the third limb being egg-shaped. The antennae have two basic links and 15 flattened flagella links. The males are more conspicuously colored than the females. Her palps and lower face are yellow, the crown and forehead are blackish-brown, the thorax is yellow. The mesonotum has three longitudinal stripes. The abdomen segments are yellow, but their rear edge is black-brown. The female is rusty yellow in color. The wings are clouded and hairy gray. The holders are yellow with a dark button.

Occurrence and way of life

The animals are widespread in Europe. The larvae develop in fungal mycelium in rotting birch wood .
