Premio Mondello

The Premio Mondello ( Premio Letterario Internazionale Mondello ) is an Italian literary prize that was launched in 1975 by a group of Sicilian intellectuals.

The prize has been awarded in four main categories since 2012:

  • Premio Autore Straniero - May 2018 during the Salone Internazionale del Libro in Turin
  • Premio Narrativa Italiana with the subgroups
    • Premio Opera Italiana -
    • Premio SuperMondello
    • Premio Mondello Giovani
  • Premio Mondello Critica - Awards ceremony in Palermo
  • Premio alla migliore motivazione - Awards ceremony in November in Palermo
This honors the three best reasons for the award of the Premio Mondello Giovani, which is awarded by a jury of students from Sicilian high schools to one of the three Italian authors who have received the Premio Opera Italiana. The names of these winners will not be published.

The prize for the best foreign author is the highest endowed and amounted to 6,000 euros in 2018.

In addition, there are occasionally additional awards ( Premio speciale …). In the early years, Antonino Zichichi received awards for film, theater, poetry, first works and in 1976 even for physics .

history

In 1975 a group of intellectuals and cultural officials founded the Fondazione Premio Mondello in Palermo with the aim of creating an Italian literary prize of international importance, the Premio Letterario Internazionale Mondello . Francesco Lentini, judge and intellectual who was chairman of the Fondazione until his death in 2000, played a key role in the constitution. Since then, the organization and financing have been under the umbrella of the Fondazione Sicilia (the former Fondazione Banco di Sicilia ), chaired by Giovanni Puglisi, who has been a member and juror of the Premio since its inception. Cooperation partners are the Fondazione Andrea Biondo and, since 2018, the Salone Internazionale del libro di Torino. The jurors included a. Niccolò Ammaniti , Andrea Bajani , Ernesto Ferrero , Paolo Giordano , Melania Mazzucco , Antonio Porta and Leonardo Sciascia , who himself received the special jury award in 1985.
