Scare Force One is the seventh album by the Finnish band Lordi . The album was released on October 31, 2014 on AFM Records .

background

The recordings took place from June to July 2014 in the Finnish Finnvox studios in Helsinki. The producer was Mikko Karmila. After the group had produced twice for Michael Wagener in Nashville , they fulfilled a long-cherished wish to produce with Karmila, which had shaped the sound of Waltari , Children of Bodom , Nightwish and later Amorphis , among others .

In Germany and Europe, the album was released on October 31, 2014 and thus on Halloween . The first and only single Nailed by the Hammer of Frankenstein was released on September 19th. The release was celebrated on November 1, 2014 with a major performance at The Circus in Helsinki.

The album title is an allusion to the US presidential aircraft Air Force One .

An official video for Scar Force One was released on November 5, 2014 .

Versions

The album was released on CD, LP and digitally. The LP version appeared in a gatefold cover, orange vinyl and was limited to 500 copies. A “Hell's Kitchen Box”, limited to 1000 pieces, was also issued, containing the album in a digipak , a kitchen apron, a certificate of authenticity, a double-sided poster and a recipe for “Hella's Rotten Muffin ”.

Music genre

Musically, Scare Force One is , despite statements to the contrary by the band members, a consistent continuation of their previous style without any major changes. The basic musical concept that connects hard rock of the 1970s in the style of Kiss with bombast metal of the 1980s was only joined by a few industrial metal features, such as inorganic drums and choppy riffs. In addition, since Hard Rock Hallelujah won the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 at the latest, there are also hits in the music. The texts deal with horror topics as usual, for example Dr. Frankenstein or the topic of horror clowns .

reception

In his review for Laut.de , Kai Butterweck mainly complained about the lack of innovation and referred to bands like Heavy Tiger and Imperial State Electric , which would transport the spirit of Kiss much better into modern times. Marc Lengowski from Metal1.info saw it similarly, who drew the following conclusion: “ All in all, with“ Scare Force One ”, LORDI have finally limited themselves to playing their regular audience. They are sure to find something good about the album, and some of the songs are crafted as good shock rock. LORDI just lacks the will to go beyond its own, narrowly set limits . "

The album was rated much better by the reviewer at Stormbringer.at, among others, who described it as “an absurd piece of rock that will finally bring a lot of joy to fans of relevant bands”. Eckart Maronde described the album in his review for metal.de as " [e] in crisp hard rock album with one or two real hits and a whole series of singalong refrains and entertaining songs (...)".

Jens Peters awarded 8 points in Rock Hard and described the album in his review as " the best LORDI record since The Arockalypse ".

success

The album reached number 63 in the charts in Germany, while it moved up to number 13 in their home country Finland. The only single, Nailed by the Hammer of Frankenstein, missed the charts.
