Antonio Porta

Leo Paolazzi (born November 9, 1935 in Vicenza , Veneto , † April 12, 1989 in Rome , Latium ) became known as an Italian writer and poet under the pseudonym Antonio Porta . He is one of the founders of the literary movement Gruppo 63 .

Life

Antonio Porta was born Leo Paolazzi in Vicenza in 1935. In 1958 he began to write for the literary magazine il verri by Luciano Anceschi . During this time he also wrote some poems that appeared in the 1969 anthology I novissimi alongside works by Elio Pagliarani , Edoardo Sanguineti , Alfredo Giuliani and Nanni Balestrini .

Gruppo 63

From his experience with il verri he began to collaborate with the avant-garde Italian literary movement Gruppo 63 . When the group was founded, he also took part in their meetings in Palermo , Reggio nell'Emilia , La Sapienza and Fano .

From 1963 to 1967 Porta was co-editor of the Malebenue magazine in Reggio nell'Emilia . During this time he also took part in literary and art exhibitions in Padua , Rome , Milan and London . His work Zero from 1963 is arguably the one most associated with this period.

Later career

He wrote literary reviews for prestigious Italian newspapers such as Il Corriere della Sera and Il Giorno, and also worked with Tuttolibri , Panorama and L'Europeo . He also published in the monthly magazines Alfabeta and La Gola , which he also directed.

From 1982 to 1988 he taught at the universities in Chieti , later at Yale University , the University of Pavia , the Sapienza University of Rome and the University of Bologna .
